We live with the opportunity to tap into more superfoods, yoga practices, and alternative therapies than ever before. With all the potential, a big question is what is necessary?
Superfoods, Inner-Child Healing & Yoga Retreats… Do I need this?
Fair question and a fair answer in turn. Yes & no. Simply it comes down to why it is that you are feeling the need to do laughter yoga, if you need to be more carb-conscious, and if your inner child could use some added play therapy. Are you thinking that this new “Thing” will help you feel peace, and will fix all that is “wrong” in your life?
If you are using something, anything for what it is meant to give you, then it is a good sign to look at yourself and address if it is necessary and see what you can do to supplement it with presence first.
Now I am all for super-foods, yoga practices, and alternative therapies, I am working on one myself. However, nothing can stop the benefit of finding whatever peace we can on our own. A prescription for anything else is then given the option to work as well as possible.
Well, I want to have a piece of peace.
We all do. Peace has become something akin to gas for the car, we all need it to get anywhere, but the price for it has become increasingly outrageous that it seems like a luxury. Yet it remains a necessity. The key to this is to face that the way we progress is from a space of rest.
Allowing ourselves to form an idea of the way to go and then tracking our progress toward that point.
Very difficult to do when you are moving at a million miles a minute.
None of these prescriptive medicines, foods, or modalities are wrong. However, it is important to know what you need so that you can ensure that you are providing what is best for yourself at that moment, anything beyond what is strictly necessary is poison.
So knowing what medicine is necessary is important in allowing yourself to heal.
What do you mean to allow healing?
Our bodies live in a state of homeostasis. They are constantly doing the best they can to be as healed as possible given all of their inputs. Wow. A mouthful.
It boils down to the body using whatever building blocks it has in the most intelligent way that it knows how to. So our bodies have a high level of intelligence. Take note that the ways our bodies know to heal come down to the current states they are mostly exposed to.
This is one part of epigenetics, that the environment we exist in determines, in part, the expressions of our genes. IE, what our body builds with its blocks.
So as we change our environment we allow for more complex expressions to occur, really allowing for simpler combinations that simultaneously create incredibly complex relationships.
Linking back to peace. We need to know why we are seeking to make a change. Our cells are some of the smallest building blocks of us.
If they are in a constant panic or state of disruption, then our bodies will be in the same state. So addressing the mindset, which is what informs our cells, is a great way toward ensuring we have an opportunity.
Otherwise, we get caught up in the idea of all the healing, trying so many different retreats, rather than just ensuring that we sit with ourselves and figure out, “Where is my mind?”
Where are you operating from?
A great way to get a start on this practice is to check in and see where you are operating from. In other words, where are you making your actions from? Is it a balanced space that is secure and aligned with love? Or are you in a reactive space because something happened that triggered a hurt part inside of yourself?
Awareness is the first step, a lovely trick to jumpstart this system and help you become more aware of it, is to carry a little book and write down any time you find yourself in a reactive state. Simply record it, and you may find yourself reacting in the space of performing the practice. Perfect, sit with it. It may be uncomfortable, but I would bet money that after a week, many of the things that were triggering you, are now breezes in the wind.
Now we practice feeling the discomfort. This can be done lying down, simply observe the physical sensation of the discomfort, the piece that leads you to react. Observe and describe it, what color is it? Is it spiky or soft? Does it vibrate? Move?
Continue to allow yourself to check in with your body, and do your best to not judge yourself for these feelings. It is an important part of living to allow yourself this moment. To move forward and grow, but to also give yourself grace and compassion as you move between moments.
How do I install updates?
Thankfully we automatically update. It is a part of why there has been such a movement back to being. When we do, we are constantly engaged, and we fail to allow ourselves the space to naturally integrate where we have been, are, and are heading to. Meditation is an incredible means of reconnecting and allowing ourselves to reconnect properly.
It also comes from other people, as when we spend time consciously with others, we naturally learn to live better together. Again a space of peace is paramount to this occurring.
A big reason peace is always a great starting point is because, I find myself to be triggered, left, right, and center, around people. None of which is bad, there are myriad ways of seeing it as a natural occurrence. That all I judge in others, is in fact, present in myself. That they are blessings of light, that I get to observe and find ways to integrate.
All true, very valid, and incredibly useful. Also rattling.
So peace is a great starting point. It allows there to be the opportunity to take all of the aforementioned points of view, gratefully and apply them.
Okay, so we have peace, now what?
Now go forth. Do whatever you feel like doing. Follow your bliss. Take stock and continue to explore and become as you coexist with life and life coexists with you.
All of those incredible practices can work so much better, you can feel the potential benefit and take note.
We got the bliss, now where is the ball?
Life is a ball, when we let it be. We are the ones choosing our narrative, so we get to decide if we are in 7th heaven or a lower haven of hell.
It does of course require a certain level of of responsibility and owning up to the moment, to listen to the opportunities that are present and figure out how you choose to show up in and around yourself.
So if we have the power, why do we choose to remain in the same spaces, patterns, and stuckness?
Simply put, energy. It requires energy for us to make changes, energy to figure out what to change, and then energy to follow through during and after the process.
While we have energy we also very often have many leaks in our energy system.
So find peace. Let it be, let yourself realize what is taking energy from you. Where the stuckness is being held, and how to begin to release it.
Let it happen naturally.
Then once the peace is in place, the bliss is felt, begin to explore.
To touch on the edges of where you are and to seek out where you would like to be. This is an all-encompassing shift that begins to allow you to make the changes that your life is craving for you to make. These are effortless, and always in the pipeline. So it is on us to allow them to naturally convert.
Take a breath.
Stop.
Look at a bird.
Let life happen through you.
That is the real wellness revolution.
